International meeting of cup tasters at Open de Cata 2024

The new edition of the Open de Cata, to be held on 25 and 26 October in Barcelona, is shaping up to be one of the most outstanding international events in the world of coffee. This year, there will be 36 participants from around the world, including countries such as the United States, Australia, Kazakhstan, Costa Rica, Germany and the United Kingdom, among others.

The Open de Cata is a unique and different championship, combining three key modalities: free tasting, sensory memory and triangulation. These disciplines challenge the tasters’ skills in taste evaluation, taste memory and the ability to distinguish subtleties between similar samples, creating a highly competitive and demanding environment.

The championship will bring together a diverse group of coffee professionals, including roasters, baristas, quality control specialists, and even coffee producers. This variety of profiles ensures an enriching exchange of knowledge and skills that raises the level of competition. In addition, we will be joined by some of the world’s best coffee tasters, internationally recognised for their expertise and skill in the art of cupping.

For many competitors, this will be their debut in a championship of this kind. However, we will also have among us veterans of international competitions, who have already made their mark in cupping and barista competitions, as well as in previous editions of the Open de Cata. This mix of emerging talent and experience creates a unique and dynamic environment, where every participant will have the opportunity to stand out and compete for the first prize of €10,000.

This prestigious prize is not only a valuable financial reward, but also a recognition of the effort, commitment and passion that each participant has dedicated to the world of coffee.

Every sip counts, and the search for the first prize winner promises to be intense, challenging and exciting – don’t miss out!
