PRAECIPUA is the Star that gives its name to all the lots of coffee produced by Rosebella Langat at the Chepsangor Hills Coffee washing station, located in the Nandi Hills coffee growing region.
The lots are differentiated by their different characteristics in taste, aroma and processing. Each washing station is named after a star to name its lots, thus forming a large coffee universe.

… We are not a forgotten people, we can finally earn a living’… This is the joy and motto of Rosebella Langat, producer of our lots named after the star Praecipua, one of the women of the Kenyan coffee community and owner of the Chepsangor Hills Coffee farm in Nandi Hills. There is only one coffee tree left on the farm that has been producing beans since the 1950s, all the others were cut down when the land was subdivided into smaller parts for the local population after independence. Chepsangor Hills Coffee now grows and processes specialty coffee and works with local farmers to produce good quality coffee. The bean production process is carefully managed using good agronomic practices that do not harm the environment. Rosabella’s coffee is grown on the fertile volcanic soils of the Nandi Hills in the Nandi Escape of the Rifft Valley at an altitude between 1700-2000 meters above sea level where SL28, Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties are grown.
The farm has a very varied infrastructure that allows all types of processes – washed, natural and honey – to be carried out. Their team is made up of young people who are eager to investigate and try new things.
The Chepsangor Hills Washing station is located in the Nandi coffee growing region. The station had been out of operation for years, until 2016 when Rosabella Langat and Sammy decided to leave their professional careers in Nairobi to return to their roots and dedicate themselves to coffee, thus reactivating the activity and servicing the entire producing community in the area.
Today they grow and process coffee cherries in an area that was once a plantation in the 1950s. For decades many locals stopped producing coffee because it was associated with the colonial period, and the few remaining coffee farmers had to carry their cherries more than 20 km to process them, as the old pulping station had been destroyed. Rosabella and Sammy filled the gap by installing an environmentally friendly pulping machine in Chepsangor with a capacity of 1.5 tons per hour, which has given a new impetus to coffee cultivation in the nearby hills.
Currently, Chepsangor receives cherries from more than 150 Producers, mainly SL 28, Batian and Ruiru 11 varieties. In total, around 45,000 coffee trees are processed, grown between 1,700 and 2,000 meters above sea level on volcanic soils. Together with Rosabella, Sammy and his team we developed several of our processes, including Natural Sleeping Bag, DF Washed and OOTB Anaerobic Natural Mountain Dry, among others.
