SCA Championships – World of Coffee 2024

A few days after the World of Coffee in Copenhagen, we could not be happier with our visit to this event dedicated to specialty coffee.

During the whole month of June, our team together with the Mare Terra Coffee Team has been working on the preparations for the World of Coffee 2024 organizing all the materials, activities and coffees that have been used in this edition. If you missed our last post where we told you all about it, here is the link here.

In addition to the activities organized by the team of Mare Terra Coffe and Mare Terra Coffee Institute, we had the opportunity to greet many of our partners and to see some of the championships organized by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) that were held in this edition.

The winner’s final exercise was a blue whale, a maple tree and a dragon.

The World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship competition is based on baristas having to present innovative drink recipes that highlight coffee and spirits in a competition format.
In the final round, contestants had to prepare two Irish coffees (whiskey and coffee) and two coffee and alcohol-based designer drinks.
The winner of this championship was Seung Chan Wi from South Korea.

In the Cezve/Ibrik Championship the winner was Jordan Tachnakian from France, barista and quality manager of Terras de Coffee.
This method of coffee preparation is of Turkish origin, and was invented during the XVI century.
The drink has nothing to do with the one we are used to drinking on this side of the hemisphere, the coffee is ground into powder and infused with spices such as Cinnamon or cardamom.

Thaiyang Liu has won the World Coffee Roasting Championship at the WOC in Copenhagen. This is his third year as a competitor and he has been working in the specialty coffee industry for 9 years, he is the owner of Pincle Coffee.
