World of Coffee 2024 – Copenhagen
It’s been a few days since the World of Coffee in Copenhagen and we are still with a slight hangover of coffees, reunions, chats and the occasional beer, what a WOC this 2024!
Throughout the month of June, our team has been working on the preparations for the World of Coffee 2024 organizing all the materials, activities and coffees used in this edition. This year, in addition to having a presence in the Roaster Village, we have organised different activities, if you missed it we will tell you all the details here, and if you came to see us, don’t miss this post and the video recap we have prepared.
Roaster Village
As usual, the main stand of Mare TerrasCoffee has been located in the Roaster Village South , there our team prepared several tastings during the three days to present the new batches of Green coffee in which our R & D Department has worked during the Harvest hand in hand with the Producers and that will reach us in the coming months. The tastings featured coffees from origins such as Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Kenya, among others.
All the coffees were prepared in filter and in thermos, all the assistants could taste the coffees keeping the temperatures, thanks to our friends from Marco In the afternoons at the stand we organized the activities that are already classics in the World of Coffee and in which year after year some participants repeat and in which every time we close the places with a full house.
BESTBrew Cup
Among these activities, on Thursday we organized the BESTBrew Cup, in which the participants prepared our Ethiopian coffee Thor’s Helmet by choosing their favorite filter method, which, together with the help of BESTBrew The final was quite close between the 12 participants, these are the winners:
– Renata Hardewijn of This Side Up Coffees (The Netherlands)
– Anes Malkanova of Martines Company (Bulgaria)
– Nelson Phu of Rosso Coffee Roasters (Germany)
Congratulations to the winners!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants for their enthusiasm to participate in this activity, our friends at BESTBrew for the support with all the material and Gideon for being one of the judges of this activity.
Memory Match
On Friday, it was the turn of another of the activities already organized in other editions, the Memory Match, in which participants had to match coffees from 6 thermoses and also choose the origin, process and type of fermentation of the batch of coffee.
In the Memory Match final there was a tie and the winners were Arkadiy Klimanov of Sweet Bean (Slovakia) and Vadim Zvarych of The Barn (Germany), both of whom won a place to participate in the Pre Open de Cata.
Coffee and Beer Pairing: Daterra & Danish Beer’.
We left the icing on the cake for Saturday’s activity, as we do every year with our friends from Daterra Coffee we like to organize something fun, this year we prepared the ‘Coffee and Beer Pairing: Daterra & Danish Beer’.
On the table were 7 coffees from Daterra with different profiles: chocolaty, floral, fruity, Spicy, Winey, Exotic and Lactic that paired profiles with craft beers from Denmark.
As always, it was a pleasure to organize this activity together with the Daterra team and to share with all the attendees talks and opinions about wine pairings.
Mare Terra Coffee Homies
Continuing in the Roaster Village South, this year as a novelty we organized a table where some of our customers could serve Mare Terra coffees, roasted by them.
The roasters prepared the coffees in espresso with the Victoria Arduino E1 Prima Pro coffee maker or in filter with V60.
To all our ‘homies’ we thank you for your collaboration in this initiative, we have loved sharing time with you at the World of Coffee and enjoying your coffees.
These are the roasters who have visited the Mare Terra Coffee Homies stand:

Roast Rumble
In addition to the activities we have told you about, we organize together with our Partner Giesen Coffee Roasters, the second edition of the Roast Rumble.
The first edition of this alternative green coffee roasting championship was organized in Madrid during the Coffeefest, the reception was very positive so together with the Giesen team we decided to do it again at the World of Coffee.
On Thursday 27th the Roast Rumble began, ten participants from different countries including Spain, Poland, Bulgaria and Taiwan received two batches of our Guatemalan coffees Meissa AVB and Vega EKI from El Salvador. The participants had 30 minutes to roast the coffees in the Giesen W1E coffee roaster and deliver them to the Roast Rumble organization.
The following day, our team of judges formed by Daniela Capuano of Capuano Coffee, Teodora Pitis of Sloane Coffee and Axel Simón, head of the QLab of Mare Terra Coffee, evaluated the 10 Meissa AVB coffees of the participants. In this Brazilian cupping, the judges selected 5 coffees with the best scores.
The Vega EKI coffees of the 5 classified participants were tasted by our judges and three of them were the winners:
– 1st prize – Chiung Ju Chiu (Taiwan)
– 2nd prize – Andrei Ioan Sirbu (Denmark)
– 3rd prize – Alexander Skrinjaric (Bulgaria)
Once again it has been great to make this championship with Giesen Coffee Roasters and all his team, from here we thank all the participants, and we leave you this link to the Roast Rumble where you have all the details of this activity, until the next edition!
