Colombia occupies third place worldwide as a producer of green coffee with 22 coffee growing regions, each one with its own differentiated cup profile, which reflects the diversity and quality of the coffee of this origin.

Coffee cultivation in Colombia
Colombia is located in a tropical zone, with a location between 4°S and 12°N. The climate is sunny, with solar radiation averaging between 35.7 and 36.1 MJ/m2/day. Bimodal rainfall – two rainy seasons per year – provide ideal conditions for coffee cultivation.
Most of the coffee plantations in Colombia are located between 1,200 and +2,000 meters above sea level, taking advantage of the optimal conditions for the crop. The environmental and biological diversity of Colombia is fundamental for the wide variety of flavors found in Colombian coffee.
Volcanic soils are predominant in Colombia and allow for optimal growth of coffee plants, as they are deep, granular, moderately permeable and well aerated.
Colombian society and coffee
Coffee has been a relevant part of the Colombian economy since the beginning of the twentieth century, although the economic and social growth in the coffee sector has not evolved at the same pace.
The average age of coffee growers in Colombia is between 57 and 60 years, which raises the need to encourage young people to take part in coffee growing and learn new techniques .
It also seeks to achieve greater gender equity in the sector.
The great challenge for the Colombian coffee economy is to transfer the benefits of the coffee industry to the producers in order to promote the aforementioned interest on the part of young people and equity between men and women.
