The history of Café Nunes begins with cattle raising. For many años, Osmar Pereira Nunes, patriarch of the family, took care of the cattle without realizing that the most valuable fruit of that region was yet to be cultivated. In 1984, precisely on November 24, Osmar Júnior, better known as Juninho, planted 10 hectares of Arabica coffee in the soil of the Cerrado Mineiro. Although his history began with his father’s cattle raising, his passion for agriculture was stronger and intensified by the influence of immigrants who came to invest in coffee in Minas Gerais. A year later, Juninho planted another 7 hectares of the Freitas Farm. With the experience of someone who has been in the field for more than 30 years, Juninho serenely affirms that “for the Producer there is no greater joy than arriving at the Farm and smelling the flowering”, from then until today, there has been an unimaginable revolution in the field and it is still happening in the taste of the world coffee consumer. Modern machines have evolved the processes of planting, handling, Harvest and post-harvest, bringing more speed and greater productivity. Mechanization has brought unique benefits to the coffee that goes to the consumer’s cup. There are more varieties planted, new types of beverages and a natural evolution in the quality of the final product. For Juninho, “coffee stopped being a commodity to become a spice, a product valued and appreciated all over the world” To this day, the Nunes family’s coffee is cultivated with the same dedication and passion Gabriel, Juninho’s son, is the third generation of coffee growers in the family. Gabriel is an agronomist engineer from the renowned Viçosa University. applies his knowledge to provide continuity and an entrepreneurial vision to the family business. For Gabriel, “modernity demands quick decisions and brings immediate consequences. In the past, it was produced with only volume in mind; Today it is necessary to balance the social, environmental and financial pillars of a Farm in order for the business to prosper. Planting today means guaranteeing quality, managing the soil correctly to reduce the use of inputs, being environmentally conscious and understanding what the market is looking for in the crop”. Juninho has given support and knowledge to family members to invest in coffee, he is committed to sharing knowledge so that other producers can grow and with it the coffee regions. The coffees harvested at the Bom Jardim farm are qualified as some of the best coffees in the world, winners of national and international awards, and are the recognition of daily work, full dedication and the use of innovative processes and advanced technologies. Bom Jardim Farm is located in the Cerrado Mineiro region, at an altitude between 930 and 1,170 meters above sea level, the farm has its own benefits both dry and wet, Bom Jardim has a size of 700 ha of which 400 ha are used for the cultivation of coffee, the coffee trees of the farm is approximately 13 años old. The Nunes family cultivates more than 28 varieties of coffee in experimental fields, in eroded, ancient andañossoils, which facilitates the mechanized harvesting of the coffee trees.
