Encuentros Cafeteros is the corporate event of Mare Terras Coffee, our event.
The first edition of the event was held more than 15 years ago, in 2007. The objective and the basis of the event was to bring together our suppliers and producers of Green coffee and our clients in a comfortable space, in which the producers could expose their daily lives, their concerns, their needs, and the roasters and people from the specialty coffee industry could get to know this link in the coffee chain much better and more closely, also exposing their needs.
The first editions of Encuentros Cafeteros were held at the Hotel Rey Don Jaime in Castelldefels, dedicating a day to talks and presentations during the day and a dinner for suppliers and clients at night.
Encuentros Cafeteros have always been a very pleasant event where all the attendees ask the doubts or concerns that are generated in their day to day life, close to specialty coffee.
In 2017, we decided to take the leap and extrapolate Encuentros Cafeteros to Barcelona capital and open it to the public.
We held this edition in the Manhattan Space located in Aragon Street, a space also very consistent with our event. The talks and presentations went very smoothly and one of the main topics we talked about was the first experimental batches with fermentations in the origins of Ethiopia and Colombia, everything has evolved so much since then!
In addition to organizing Encuentros Cafeteros, in the same space we organize the second alternative Cupping Championship Open de Cata. A coffee tasting event – also corporate – that is divided into two phases: sensory memory and triangulation in which participants, many of them professional tasters, compete to win the first prize, a check for €6,000.
This year we return to resume Encuentros Cafeteros, after a few years of hiatus due to COVID 19, and to dedicate ourselves internally to the digitization and development of the company, we are very pleased to announce that we return with great enthusiasm and we resume Encuentros Cafeteros and Open de Cata
In this edition we return to our origins, once again organizing Encuentros Cafeteros at the Hotel Rey Don Jaime, a more personal and private edition in which we invite all our customers to enjoy a day of tastings, food and lectures with simultaneous translation included.
We will share knowledge, solve doubts and learn from our partners who will present different topics, among them Andrés Salaverría from Jasal, who comes from El Salvador to tell us more about how to increase the production of green coffee using state-of-the-art processes, without losing quality, or the experience of Rosabella Langlat who comes from Kenya and who will tell us about the social impact of coffee production in Nandi Hills, the coffee region where she produces her coffees.
In addition to the lectures, we will organize round tables on topics such as the production of specialty coffees in Africa and interactive tastings where participants will be able to gauge each other and comment on results and opinions. These meetings will take place on Thursday, October 19 and the morning of Friday, October 20.
And how could it be otherwise, on Friday afternoon we kicked off with the semifinals of the Open de Cata!

From Mare Terras, we are working to organize a great event, in which all of us who participate, can learn and share with roasters from around the world and experts from Producer countries such as Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador or Ethiopia among others, in addition to enjoying a fantastic environment taking our best coffees with the sea in the background.
