Since its inception in 2008, Mare Terras Coffee Institute has played a fundamental role in the promotion and dissemination of coffee culture in Spain. Now, in this new stage, Mare Terra Coffee Institute and Mare Terra Coffee have decided to join forces, consolidating their efforts and resources to advance together on the path of specialty coffee.
The origin of our institution, previously called the Spanish Coffee Institute – IECAFÉ, dates back to a period in which specialty coffee began its expansion from Northern Europe to Spain.
In 2008, Mare Terras Coffee had already been importing specialty Green coffee for four years, a totally different product from the coffee consumed and prepared in Spain at that time. Faced with this situation, the need arose to promote coffee culture through education.
Our training school was born with the objective of making known and teaching what this new product represented: specialty Coffee, both for Producers and consumers. Education became the key tool to transmit the exclusivity and quality of specialty coffee, and since then we have been committed to education, research, innovation and development in the world of coffee.
Currently, our facilities are located in a privileged position in the Baix Llobregat Campus, belonging to the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and located in the Mediterranean Technology Park (PMT). This environment gives us added value by placing us in a space of innovation, knowledge and talent.
The Mediterranean Technology Park (PMT) is a multidisciplinary space that integrates various specialties, from aeronautics and space to biotechnology and agri-food engineering, including optical and photonic sciences and technologies, biological engineering, numerical methods in engineering, geo-information technologies, information and communications technologies, and environmental technologies.
This year, Mare Terra Coffee and Mare Terra Coffee Institute will take advantage of their strategic location and specialization in Biotechnology and Agri-Food Engineering to develop new knowledge applicable to the Cultivation of Green coffee. This initiative reflects our continuous commitment to research and constant improvement in all aspects of the coffee chain.
The merger of Mare Terra Coffee Institute and Mare Terra Coffee represents a synergy that will further strengthen our ability to lead and contribute to sustainable development and excellence in the world of coffee. We are excited about this new stage and eager to continue sharing our love and knowledge of Coffee with all those who appreciate it as much as we do.
